Marijuana
I read recently an article from the USA calling those who advocate marijuana legalization as naive about the consequences of legalization and looking for excuses to indulge in drug taking. Those who call to keep the ban on marijuana in force are perhaps themselves naive in thinking that prohibition could possibly have a positive effect on the societies where it is enforced. Recently Mexico withdrew a plan to decriminalize personal possession in Mexico because the US government made strong complaints due to fears their own youth would want visit Mexico to use marijuana, as drunks used to go to Cuba during th alcohol prohibition in the USA. It seems that the laws in Mexico have to be written for US citizens and not Mexican citizens. Its clear who rules in Mexico. When Anslinger testified in front of the US Congress he ""causes white women to seek sexual relations with Negroes" To me this is a clear endorsement of legalizing marijuana currently, unless those who rule over us still fear that their white daughters will sleep with black men; such individuals are clearly not fit to govern even themselves let alone take on positions of authority ruling over the rest of us. Its equally clear that far more black youths are arrested for possession of marijuana whereas there is no evidence of higher rates of marijuana usage amongst black people. But Babylon still, after all that has happened, being a real racist shit is not really surprising, at least to Rastafari. The very same people who talk about ending the ban on marijuana are those who talked about ending the Atlantic Slave Trade. They claim they are our rulers with moral superiority over us and that we are just deranged drug takers looking for excuses to abuse drugs and naive about what will happen if marijuana is legalized, presumably referring to their own white daughters not going out with black men.

All Praises to HIM Selassie

We are full of love and devotion for Haile Selassie. You have to understand our situation. Brought over from Africa, and especially West Africa, as slaves over a period of several hundred years we were completely disenfranchised from our own culture. Babylon glibly declared that we were slaves no more but now had to earn our own living and make our own way in a world not of our own making, with no resources and in many cases not even the papers proving us citizens of those Western countries into which we had the misfortune to be born. And then they offered us no further hope, neither for us nor for our descendants.
It was Marcus Garvey who pointed out that we need to have culture and roots and to build our own from the ruins of our destroyed culture, becoming materially prosperous middle class people and aristocrats. We must become rulers of our own destiny.
With Selassie came such Royal inspiration and the possibility to begin living a truly Royal lifestyle. As we say, we come from monarchy not from monkey. On a deeper level we recognize Mother Earth in who we move and live and have our being, and that each blade of grass and each amoeba is our brother and sister. Unlike the Christian who see stewardship as an excuse to trash the planet we Rastafari recognize the sacred nature of our stewardship. So you will never see Rastafari taking chemical drugs. Instead we only use the most natural herb. When we blaze up our Ethiopian chalices crammed to overflowing with high grade marijuana the heathens and Satan's followers tremble. Thus it is no surprise to us that Babylon hunts out the marijuana. Their openly stated goal is to remove this wonderful plant from the face of the Earth. They don't want us to have our eyes opened let alone to start worshiping a black God.

Hail up the Most High

We Rastafari Hail up the Most High Jah Rastafari Haile Selassie with chalices filled to overflowing with the most utter high grade marijuana imaginable. Although Babylon has condemned us to live as slaves for the last 400 years we say Enough is Enough. We want to be free. So youth, grow your dreadlocks and wear your turban, reject all evil and only follow the deepest meditations (Blue Cheese, Northern lights et al). What most distresses me is that our slave drivers still claim moral superiority. They raped our ancestors and enchained them, giving them only the whip, lots of hard work, little food and no money, and now they tell us we cannot smoke our little marijuana stalks because they say so and if we disobey they send us to prison, wrecking our families and our lives. Everyone knows Babylon hunts cannabis more than they hunt the mafia. We have 400 years of resentments seething within. Or rather we had all this within our souls until Rastafari came along and turned our tribulation into jubilation. Literally when Jah came knocking on our doors we ceased being slaves for ever. Now even though many of us live in poverty in the West and are forbidden from returning home as a people and becoming true citizens of Africa, still we have the opportunity to live a truly Royal lifestyle like the Ethiopian Kings and Queens that we really are. With bong in hand we are literally living the Most High Royal lifestyle, meditating like King David and King Solomon. We have seen 3 generations of energetic Rastafari now, each stronger than the previous generation. In the beginning were Leonard Howell and Prince Emmanuel and Ras Sam. Then came along Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and a whole plethora of individuals from Benjamin Zephaniah to Burning Spear. The most well know from the 3rd generation is Sizzla but Capleton, Jah Mason, Lutan Fyah, Turbulence and a whole heap of other artists have taken the Rastafari message so strongly and in such an inspirational way into the 21st Century. of one thing we can be sure, Rastafari is a 21st Century livity. Phenomenal!
